Those will be real options when Ritz-Carlton launches its three cruise ships in 2020. In fact, Ritz-Carlton Rewards members can start booking passage in May. The rest of us must wait until June.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is designed to give well-heeled travelers everything they love about staying at a luxury hotel while eliminating everything they hate about cruising. For openers, Ritz promises larger accommodations -149 suites, all with balconies, plus two penthouses.
The ships’ high-end dining options will include a restaurant created and overseen by chef Sven Elverfeld, whose hash-slinging at The Ritz-Carlton in Wolfsburg, Germany has earned the place three Michelin stars. Unlike most cruise ships, Ritz passengers may eat when they wish, as opposed to signing up for a mess-hall-like shift in the dining room.
After dinner, satiated cruisers can retire to intimate, well-appointed common areas to chat or sip a post-meal beverage. No threadbare sofas or plastic chaise lounges here!
Ritz-Carlton’s elegant armada will sail the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the coast of New England. The itineraries will consist of less time at sea and more visits to small ports of call.
While bounding across the waves, passengers will be treated to lectures and entertainment from local chefs, artists, and lecturers.
Prices for not been announced, but rest assured that, as one observer put it, this will be a travel experience for “the 1% of global travelers.”
